Taste of Atlanta Returns!

Educational cooking stages offer hands-on tutorials and more at Taste of Atlanta
he Chef’s Table, The Kitchen Workshop, Carnival’s Kids Corner and more allow festivalgoers to rub elbows with their favorite chefs Sept. 26-27

While guests get their fill from over 100 restaurants at this year’s Taste of Atlanta, they can also learn culinary tips firsthand from their favorite chefs! The festival, which returns to Midtown at Tech Square on September 25 – 27, will feature five live cooking stages to offer attendees the chance to take the culinary craft into their own hands with direction from none other than the pros!

The Chef's Table, hosted by Atlanta Broadcast Personality Tom Sullivan, provides festivalgoers the opportunity to gain valuable insight from Atlanta’s acclaimed culinary icons in an intimate setting. Chefs will dish on their personal journeys and offer expert cooking tips and techniques to the crowd during 30-to 45-minute sessions.

2015 Chef’s Table session highlights include:

·         Ponce City Market Food Hall Highlights: Check out culinary highlights from the heart of Ponce City Market, including insight from Chef David Berry of Bellina Alimentari, Jackson Smith from Honeysuckle Gelato and Chef Meherwan Irani of Boti. Guests will see (and taste!) why it’s destined to be one of the most vibrant food markets in the Southeast!

·         Table Talk: Best Tables in Town: This is on the “dining down low,” but Atlanta has a special selection of restaurants with exclusive tasting menus, intimate table experiences and private rooms. Guests can get the inside scoop from Chef EJ Hodgkinson of King & Duke, Chef Chris Hall of Local Three and Thaddeus Keefe of 1Kep on the most revered, reservation-worthy restaurants that take wining and dining to the next level.
·         Secrets of the Eat & Greet: Guests can get a sneak peek into the world of rock star food with Zac Brown Band’s Executive Chef, Rusty Hamlin, who tours across the U.S. and cooks up southern cuisine in a state-of-the-art, 18-wheel mobile kitchen named "Cookie." At every tour stop, Chef Rusty and his rock-star culinary team prepare for the band’s famous "Eat & Greets," an intimate, one-of-a-kind sit-down meal for a few hundred fans.

The Kitchen Workshop, hosted by CNN’s Emmy Nominated Journalist Holly Firfer, features step-by-step cooking tutorials for both skilled home cooks and those still learning to boil water. Classes are approximately 45-minutes long, and every participant leaves with a recipe they can make at home and a feather in their toque! The Kitchen Workshop is presented by The Cook’s Warehouse, Le Cordon Bleu, Guy Gunter Home, Whole Foods Market and Calphalon.

2015 Kitchen Workshop session highlights include:

·         Fried, Tried & True: Southern-Style Chicken Worth the Pickin: Craving a down-home culinary classic? Join Mary Moore of The Cook’s Warehouse for a flavorful demonstration on how to fry chicken to Southern standards using kitchen necessities from Lodge Cast Iron.

·         In-The-Mood Food: Food can satisfy more than just an appetite! Join Chef Nick Leahy of Saltyard and learn how to serve passion on a plate with aphrodisiacs that go beyond oysters (although participants will learn how to rethink recipes for these familiar molluscs as well). Guests will turn up the heat in the kitchen, as they learn how to experiment with certain food to ignite their senses and spice up their love life.

·         Latkepalooza: Join Chef Patric Bell-Good of Max's Wine Dive and flip out over a plethora of pancake recipes – perfect for breakfast, lunch and dinner! However guests decide to pack their pancakes, they'll be served up with all sorts of savory fillings.

The Big Green Egg Grilling Stage, hosted by Kevin Jenkins and Executive Chef Erik Holdo of “Chef and the Fatman,” features the ultimate cookout demonstrations to get grill masters fired up! Festivalgoers will walk away with some smokin’ recipes, as they watch top chefs cook up their specialties during 30-to 45-minute sessions on these recognizable ceramic grills.

2015 Big Green Egg Grilling Stage session highlights include:

·         Texas Hold ‘Em: Everything is bigger in Texas – including the flavor! Learn to lasso up some recipes from the Lone Star state, as Matt Coggin from D.B.A. Barbecue talks tried-and-true Texas-inspired tastes – from traditional BBQ to Southeastern sides (with all the fixin's of course!).
·         More Room for ‘Shrooms: Meat may be a mainstay on the grill, but Portobello mushrooms are amazing alternatives worth the try! Learn grilling tips, mouthwatering marinates and tasty toppings from Nate Hybl of gusto! Wood Fire Grill to turn this veggie side into the main course that even the pickiest carnivore will crave!
·         Fruit for Thought: Grilled Stone Fruits: Satisfy your sweet side! Chef Leif Johnson of BITE Bistro & Bar and Bellwoods Social House will show guests how grilled fruit can make a delicious dessert, side dish, appetizer or anytime treat!

The Carnival's Kids Corner, presented by Carnival Cruise Lines, features locally and nationally-celebrated chefs of all ages to stir up some family-friendly fun! Festivalgoers will enjoy engaging, 30-to 45-minute segments that highlight simple, healthy meals sure to become family favorites!

2015 Carnival’s Kids Corner session highlights include:

·         What Real Chefs Feed Their Families: Ever wonder what real chefs whip up at home for their families? During this seminar, guests will join one of Carnival's own onboard chefs and Chef Chris Blobaum from Article 14 to learn how they transition culinary expertise from cooking for people on vacation to cooking right at home.

·         Lunch Box Fun Hacks: There's no reason packed lunches can't be packed with fun, too! Chef Ron Eyester of Rosebud will show parents how to step up their school lunch game. They’ll learn expert tricks and clever hacks, including how to make fun brown paper bag drawings and how to transform fruits and veggies into appetizing works of art!
·         Burger Battle: Three tiny chefs-in-training will go head-to-head to create a delicious burger for a panel of kid judges! The pint-sized chef who crafts the tastiest burger will win a cruise for the whole family, along with the chance to have their recipe featured on a Carnival ship at Guy's Burger Joint!

The EAT GA Stage, which is a new addition to the live cooking stages at Taste of Atlanta, celebrates Georgia's bounty of harvest. Festivalgoers will taste, learn and enjoy locally-grown goodies during 30-to-45-minute seminars.

2015 EAT GA Stage session highlights include:

·         Cooking with Local Black Eyed Peas: Take these prized pantry peas up a notch with Chef and Author Jennifer Booker! Guests will learn how these Southern peas are the perfect addition to many recipes – from dips and side salads to main course meals.

·         Iron Chef Kids Cooking Competition: Three Chefs in-training will square off against each other to create delicious dishes using peanut butter.

·         Power Your Salads with Peanuts: Peanuts not only add extra flavor and crunch to a salad, but they also contain heart-healthy fat and are rich in protein and fiber! Guests can join Don Koeler from Georgia Peanut Commission during this powerful session to learn more about putting some pep in their step with peanuts!

Sessions offered at the Chef’s Table, Kitchen Workshop, Big Green Egg Grilling Stage, Carnival’s Kids Corner and the EAT GA Stage are available on a first come first serve basis, so festivalgoers are encouraged to arrive early to claim a spot! Tickets for Taste of Atlanta are on sale now. General admission is $25 in advance, and includes 10 Taste Points (the official dining currency of Taste of Atlanta) and access to the live cooking stages; VIP admission, which includes exclusive access to the VIP Grand Tasting Experience with beer and wine by Hop City (open 12:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday), 10 Taste Points and a souvenir tasting glass, is $75 in advance.
